Assurant Omnibug

[Overview]

While at Card79 I helped to design the Assurant OmniBug, a multi-device debugging station developed for Assurant’s smartphone refurbishment facilities. The system uses a high-resolution camera and onboard computer to scan smart QR codes and simultaneously debug up to seven smartphones, streamlining quality control on the production floor. Our design process was deeply ergonomic—built on extensive interviews and workflow studies with operators to understand movement patterns, reach zones, and visual fatigue. These insights led to a modular, human-centered design that emphasized clarity, accessibility, and maintainability, ultimately improving throughput and reducing operator strain in high-volume repair environments.
